This is known as automatic trayselection.If there are multiple trays that match those criteria for automatic tray selection, a tray isselected based on the printer's Tray Priority as set using the printer's web pages.ADVANCED MEDIA CONTROLAuto tray changeWhen an input tray runs out of paper, auto tray changing enables the printer to switch toanother available tray that contains the same Media size and type.Media checkWhen Media Check is enabled (default):The printer first checks the requested input tray, or the printer’s default tray if one is notspecifically requested, to see if it contains paper loaded that matches the Media Size andType specified from your computer.> If the input tray does not contain the requested Media the printer searches otherinput trays to find one that has Media matching the requirements. If none is found,the printer stops and asks you to load the requested paper.The Control Panel will display the following:“Load Paper” or “Load Paper TrayX”“X” is the tray number where the paper should be loaded.> If “Load Paper” is the displayed message, the paper may be loaded into any tray.If the paper size being loaded cannot be auto-sensed, then the Control Panelmust be used to configure the paper size. After the paper is loaded, the printerwill automatically resume printing. If you want to simply continue printing on thedefault input tray without checking the paper size requested, press the ON Linebutton to resume printing.NOTE> If there are no input trays that match the automatic tray selection, anerror message prompting for replenishment of paper will be displayed.You can configure the printer not to display this message but toautomatically select a nearest or larger paper size of the document forprinting.> When paper runs out during printing, and if Auto Resize is configured inthe Printer Control Panel then a paper tray containing paper of the samesize and orientation of the paper used for printing will be selected tocontinue printing. From the Printer driver select Printer Properties >General > Printing Preferences > Paper Feed Options > Auto Tray Change> Enable.
