Check the blades for straightness by markingthe blade tip position inside the deck housing,and then rotating the opposite end of the bladeto the same position and comparing. If the difference in blade tip track is more than 1/8 in.(3 mm), the blade is bent and should be re-placed.WARNINGDO NOT try to straighten a blade that isbent. NEVER weld a broken or crackedblade. ALWAYS replace with a new bladeto assure safety.4. If the blade cutting edge is dull or nicked, itshould be sharpened. Remove blades forsharpening by grasping the end of the blade using a rag or a thick, padded glove, while loosening and removing the bolt and washer thatmounts the blade.5. Grind cutting edge at the same bevel as theoriginal. Check blade balance by positioning the bladehorizontally on a blade balancer or use a nailor shaft through the center hole. If either end ofthe blade rotates downward, grind (remove)metal on that end until the blade will balance.The blade is properly balanced when neitherend drops. Mount the blade with wing tips pointing up intothe housing. For gear-driven decks reinstallthe blade, washer, lock washer, and nut. Tight-en the nut to 60 lb·ft (81 N·m). For belt-drivendecks reinstall the spacer (if applicable), blade,washer, and bolt. Tighten the bolt to 70 lb·ft(95 N·m).Drive BeltsRaise the body and inspect the condition of the four(4) drive belts after every 25 hours of operation–engine/PTO drive (3), ground drive (1). Also remove the belt cover on the mower deck and checkthe blade drive belt. If the belts show signs ofcracking or deteriorating, the belts should be re-placed.
