Go tothe next section, Connecting the Printer on page 34.Connecting the PrinterNote: Connect the printer via Ethernet or USB. A USB connection is a direct connection and is notused for networking. An Ethernet connection is used for networking. An Ethernet connection isfaster than a USB connection. Hardware and cabling requirements vary for the differentconnection methods. Cabling and hardware are generally not included with your printer and mustbe purchased separately.1. Attach the cables:• If you have a Phaser 6121MFP/S printer configuration, you will connect the printer to yourcomputer via a standard A/B USB 2.0 cable.• If you have a Phaser 6121MFP/N or /D printer configuration and your computer is connectedto a network, connect the printer to the network using a standard Ethernet cable (category 5,RJ45). If you do not have a network, connect the printer to your computer using a standard A/BUSB 2.0 cable.2. If you have a Phaser 6121MFP/N or /D printer configuration and plan to use the fax feature,connect the printer to a phone line for sending and receiving faxes.
