Trace LogsIn addition to the syslog buffer, Dell Networking OS buffers trace messages which are continuouslywritten by various Dell Networking OS software tasks to report hardware and software events and statusinformation. Each trace message provides the date, time, and name of the Dell Networking OS process. All messagesare stored in a ring buffer. You can save the messages to a file either manually or automatically afterfailover.Auto Save on Crash or RolloverException information for MASTER or standby units is stored in the flash:/TRACE_LOG_DIR directory. Thisdirectory contains files that save trace information when there has been a task crash or timeout.• On a MASTER unit, you can reach the TRACE_LOG_DIR files by FTP or by using the show filecommand from the flash://TRACE_LOG_DIR directory.• On a Standby unit, you can reach the TRACE_LOG_DIR files only by using the show file commandfrom the flash://TRACE_LOG_DIR directory.NOTE: Non-management member units do not support this functionality.Hardware Watchdog TimerThe hardware watchdog command automatically reboots an Dell Networking OS switch/router with asingle RPM that is unresponsive. This is a last resort mechanism intended to prevent a manual power cycle.Enabling Environmental MonitoringThe device components use environmental monitoring hardware to detect transmit power readings, receive power readings, and temperature updates. To receive periodic power updates, you must enable the following command.• Enable environmental monitoring.enable optic-info-update intervalExample of the show interfaces transceiver CommandDell#show interfaces transceiver-- RPM Environment Status --Slot Status Temp Voltage------------------------------0 active 33C ok1 not presentRecognize an Overtemperature ConditionAn overtemperature condition occurs, for one of two reasons: the card genuinely is too hot or a sensorhas malfunctioned.Inspect cards adjacent to the one reporting the condition to discover the cause.Debugging and Diagnostics 1041
