25INSTALLATION Check the appliance is electrically safe and gas sound when you have finished.Positioning the RangeThe diagram (Fig. 9.1) shows the minimum recommendeddistance from the range to nearby surfaces as given inAS/NZS 5601.1. Overhead – Measurement AThe minimum height of any surface above the range is650 mm above the hotplate.Cookerhoods and exhaust fans shall be installed inaccordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. However, inno case shall the clearance between the highest part of thehob of the cooking appliance and a cookerhood be less than650 mm or, for an overhead exhaust fan, 750 mm.2. Side Clearances – Measurements B & CWhere B, measured from the periphery of the nearest burnerto any vertical combustible surface is less than 200 mm, thesurface shall be protected by one of the following methods:a. Fixing ceramic tiles with a minimum thickness of5 mm to the surface.b. Fixing toughened glass with a minimum thicknessof 5 mm to the surface, provided the glass isapproved by the manufacturer to be suitable for theapplication.c. Attaching fire resistant material to the surface andcovering with sheet metal with a minimum thicknessof 0.4 mm.Protection should be to a height C of not less than 150 mmabove the hob for the full dimension (width or depth) of thecooking surface area.3. Side Clearances – Measurement D & EWhere D, the distance from the periphery of the nearestburner to a horizontal combustible surface is less than200 mm, then E shall be 10 mm or more, or the horizontalsurface shall be above the trivet. If the horizontal surface is above the trivet, then any verticalcombustible surface needs to be protected in accordancewith B above. If the range is near a corner of the kitchen, a clearance of130 mm is required to allow the oven doors to open (Fig. 9.4and Fig. 9.5) The actual opening of the doors is slightly less, but this allows for some protection of your hand as you openthe door.We recommend a gap of 910 mm between units to allowfor moving the range. Do not box the range in it must stillbe possible to move the range in and out for cleaning andservicing.Fig. 9.1ArtNo.110-0023 - 110 - cooker clearances (AUS)ArtNo.215-0009 - 110 Elan DF010014018001233212200 0 0 0 0 01001401802200HobTrivetHorizontal combustible surfaceBCDEA*or
