Event logsError codes and messages are displayed in POST event log, system-event log, integrated management module (IMM2) event log, and DSA event log.v POST event log: This log contains the three most recent error codes andmessages that were generated during POST. You can view the contents of thePOST event log from the Setup utility (see “Starting the Setup utility” on page92). For more information about POST error codes, see Appendix B,“UEFI/POST error codes,” on page 591.v System-event log: This log contains POST and system management interrupt(SMI) events and all events that are generated by the baseboard managementcontroller that is embedded in the integrated management module (IMM). Youcan view the contents of the system-event log through the Setup utility andthrough the Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) program (as IPMI event log). The system-event log is limited in size. When it is full, new entries will notoverwrite existing entries; therefore, you must periodically clear thesystem-event log through the Setup utility. When you are troubleshooting anerror, you might have to save and then clear the system-event log to make themost recent events available for analysis. For more information about thesystem-event log, see Appendix A, “Integrated management module II (IMM2)error messages,” on page 265.Messages are listed on the left side of the screen, and details about the selectedmessage are displayed on the right side of the screen. To move from one entryto the next, use the Up Arrow (↑) and Down Arrow (↓) keys. Some IMM sensors cause assertion events to be logged when their setpoints arereached. When a setpoint condition no longer exists, a corresponding deassertionevent is logged. However, not all events are assertion-type events.v Integrated management module (IMM2) event log: This log contains a filteredsubset of all IMM, POST, and system management interrupt (SMI) events. Youcan view the IMM event log through the IMM Web interface. For moreinformation, see “Logging on to the Web interface” on page 103. You can alsoview the IMM event log through the Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) program(as the ASM event log). For more information about IMM error messages, seeAppendix A, “Integrated management module II (IMM2) error messages,” onpage 265.v DSA event log: This log is generated by the Dynamic System Analysis (DSA)program, and it is a chronologically ordered merge of the system-event log (asthe IPMI event log), the IMM chassis-event log (as the ASM event log), and theoperating-system event logs. You can view the DSA event log through the DSAprogram (see “Viewing event logs without restarting the server” on page 125).For more information about DSA and DSA messages, see Appendix C, “DSAdiagnostic test results,” on page 611 and “IBM Dynamic System Analysis” onpage 127.For more information about viewing the logs or clearing the logs, see “Viewingevent logs through the Setup utility” on page 125, “Viewing event logs withoutrestarting the server” on page 125, and “Clearing the error logs” on page 127.124 System x3650 M4 BD Type 5466: Installation and Service Guide
