Chapter 6. Removing and replacing componentsUse this information to remove and replace the server components.Replaceable components consist of consumable parts, structural parts, and fieldreplaceable units (FRUs):v Consumables: Purchase and replacement of consumables (components, such asbatteries and printer cartridges, that have depleting life) is your responsibility. IfIBM acquires or installs a consumable component at your request, you will becharged for the service.v Structural parts: Purchase and replacement of structural parts (components, suchas chassis assembly, top cover, and bezel) is your responsibility. If IBM acquiresor installs a structural component at your request, you will be charged for theservice.v Field replaceable unit (FRU): FRUs must be installed only by trainedtechnicians, unless they are classified as customer replaceable units (CRUs):– Tier 1 customer replaceable unit (CRU): Replacement of Tier 1 CRUs is yourresponsibility. If IBM installs a Tier 1 CRU at your request, you will becharged for the installation.– Tier 2 customer replaceable unit: You may install a Tier 2 CRU yourself orrequest IBM to install it, at no additional charge, under the type of warrantyservice that is designated for your server.See Chapter 5, “Parts listing,” on page 153 to determine whether a component is aconsumable, structural part, Tier 1 CRU, Tier 2 CRU or FRU.For information about the terms of the warranty, see the Warranty Informationdocument that comes with the server.
