Removing and replacing Tier 1 CRUsReplacement of Tier 1 CRUs is your responsibility. If IBM installs a Tier 1 CRU atyour request, you will be charged for the installation.The illustrations in this document might differ slightly from your hardware.Removing the coverTo remove the server cover, complete the following steps:1. Read the safety information that begins on page vii and “Installation guidelines”on page 127.2. Turn off the server and all peripheral devices, and disconnect the power cordsand all external cables.Note: When you disconnect the power source from the server, you lose theability to view the LEDs because the LEDs are not lit when the power source isremoved. Before you disconnect the power source, make a note of which LEDsare lit, including the LEDs that are lit on the operation information panel andLEDs inside the server on the system board.Cover-releasebutton3. If the server has been installed in a rack, slide the server out from the rackenclosure.4. Press the cover-release button.5. Slide the cover back approximately 1.27 cm (0.5 inches); then, lift it off theserver.6. Lift the server cover off the server and set it aside.7. If you are instructed to return the cover, follow all packaging instructions, anduse any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.Attention: For proper cooling and airflow, replace the server cover before youturn on the server.Installing the coverTo install the server cover, complete the following steps:1.
