Chapter 11 Updating Library and Tape Drive FirmwareAutoleveling Tape Drive FirmwareScalar i500 User’s Guide 287You cannot upgrade tape drive firmware with an image file from theoperator panel. The path to the appropriate screen is as follows:• From the Web client, select Tools > Drive Operations.Downgrading IBM LTO-4Tape Drive Firmware 11 IBM LTO-4 drive brick firmware PGA3 (82FB) and newer contain specialsecurity restrictions that prevent downgrading this firmware to previousversions that are not FIPS-compliant [for example, PGA1 (77BE)].If you need to downgrade LTO-4 tape drive firmware from level 82FB orhigher to level 77BE or lower, contact Quantum Technical Support forinstructions and assistance.Autoleveling Tape Drive FirmwareThe autoleveling feature enables you to automatically upgrade firmwareon all FC tape drives that are connected to the FC I/O blades or EthernetExpansion blades. This allows you to keep all FC tape drives of the sametype (for example, LTO-5) at the same firmware level. Tape drivefirmware is checked whenever a tape drive is reset, such as when thelibrary is power cycled or restarted, or whenever a tape drive is added orreplaced. If the firmware does not match, the tape drive firmware isautoleveled.FC tape drives must be connected to an FC I/O blade or an EthernetExpansion blade to participate in autoleveling operations. The librarydoes not support autoleveling FC tape drives connected directly to an FCCaution: Do not turn off power to the library during the upgradeprocess. Turning off power to the library during theupgrade can cause problems with the library.Note: This operation should not be performed concurrently bymultiple administrators. You can access the appropriatescreens, but you cannot apply changes while anotheradministrator is performing the same operation.
