32 •Document quality XEROX WIDE FORMAT COPY SYSTEMREMOVAL will automatically make the appropriate compensation tooptimize the reproduction of the dark details. If the input document has afaded background, the feature will enable a faithful reproduction of theoriginal. However, the faded background must be inserted with the fadingrunning in the process direction with the darker side being inserted first. In some cases, you may wish to optimize the settings for individualdocuments. For example, you may not wish to faithfully reproducepaste-up lines, or other artifacts on the original. For this reason, additional controls are available for selection of document type, document image quality, desired output darkness, and backgroundsuppression. The DYNAMIC BACKGROUND REMOVAL feature, when enabled, usesinformation about the document captured during the scanning process toset image quality settings. The system automatically adjusts for thedarkness of the background and the image content through out thelength of the document. When not enabled, it only uses the information ina 0.70 (17.8 mm) area over the width of the document to establish theimage quality settings. Therefore, best results can be obtained if thedocument is fed in with an edge that has a representative sampling ofboth the background and the foreground image. The Dynamic Background Removal feature provides an accurate copyfor most documents including blueline, blueprints, color line art/text, andmixed documents containing combinations of halftone and art, orphotograph and art. For documents with inverted images, the INVERTfunction should be enabled. Refer to "Inverting an image" in the "Specialfeatures keys" section for instructions on the INVERT function. The AUTOWIDTH /AUTOCENTER features enable the system toautomatically detect the width and center of the document. In casessuch as transparencies or translucent documents where automaticdetection is not possible, a message will prompt you to enter the widthmanually. You then must center the document before inserting it into theScanner. You can enable/disable the AUTOWIDTH/CENTER feature at any time.Refer to "Scanner Control" in the "Main Menu" section of this manual formore information.PRODUCTIVITY MODE: This feature is made available with version 10.0AccXES software, and requires a new WIDE FORMAT SCAN SYSTEMwith the Productivity Document Feed Tray with the discrete widthsensors. This feature measures the document width without doing a pre-scan, requiring the operator to manually align the document within themedia size guidelines on the Feed-in Tray. The width sensors eliminatethe need for a prescan thereby increasing the overall throughput of thesystem resulting in higher productivityWhen the PRODUCTIVITY MODE is used the operator must select themedia series, ANSI, ARCH, ISO A, CUSTOM, etc since the number ofsensors that can be provided can not monitor every media series. ThePRODUCTIVITY mode can be enabled/disabled at anytime. Refer to"Scanner Control" in the "Main Menu" section of this manual for moreinformation.Automatic edgedetection anddocument centering
