CRANKSHAFT5-94e. Install the crankshaft journal lower bearings“3” into the lower crankcase and assemblethe crankcase halves.TIP• Align the projections “c” of the crankshaft jour-nal lower bearings with the notches “d” in thelower crankcase.• Do not move the crankshaft until the clearancemeasurement has been completed.f. Tighten the bolts to specification in the tight-ening sequence cast on the crankcase.Refer to “CRANKCASE” on page 5-76.g. Remove the lower crankcase and the crank-shaft journal lower bearings.h. Measure the compressed Plastigauge®width “e” on each crankshaft journal. If the crankshaft-journal-to-crankshaft-jour-nal-bearing clearance is out of specification, select replacement crankshaft journal bear-ings.▲▲▲▲ ▲ ▲▲▲▲ ▲ ▲▲▲▲ ▲ ▲▲▲▲ ▲ ▲▲▲▲ ▲ ▲▲▲▲ ▲▲▲4. Select:• Crankshaft journal bearings (J1–J5)TIP• The numbers “A” stamped into the lower crank-case and the numbers “B” stamped into thecrankshaft web are used to determine the re-placement crankshaft journal bearing sizes.• J1–J5 refer to the bearings shown in the lowercrankcase and crankshaft web illustration.• If J1–J5 are the same, use the same size for allof the bearings. For example, if the lower crankcase J1 andcrankshaft web J1 numbers are 6 and 2 re-spectively, then the bearing size for J1 is:EAS26200INSTALLING THE CRANKSHAFT1.
