Entry LightingThe entry lighting system turns on the reading anddome lamps and the backlighting to the exterior lampcontrol when a door is opened or if you press the remotekeyless entry transmitter unlock button. If activated bythe transmitter, the lighting will remain active for about25 seconds. The entry lighting system uses the lightsensor; it must be dark outside in order for the lamps toturn on. The lamps turn off about 25 seconds after thelast door is closed. They will dim to off if the ignition ison, or immediately deactivate if the power locks areactivated.Parade DimmingThis feature prohibits dimming of the instrument paneldisplays and backlighting during daylight hours whenthe key is in the ignition and the headlamps are on.This feature operates with the light sensor and is fullyautomatic. When the light sensor reads darkness outsideand the parking lamps are active, the instrument paneldisplays can be adjusted by turning the instrument panelbrightness knob. See Instrument Panel Brightness onpage 3-40 for additional information.Reading LampsThe reading lamps are located on the overhead console. These lamps come on automatically when any door isopened. For manual operation, press the button next to eachlamp to turn it on or off.If the reading lamps are left on, they automatically shutoff 10 minutes after the ignition has been turned off.Battery Load ManagementThe battery load management feature is designed tomonitor the vehicle’s electrical load and determine whenthe battery is in a heavy discharge condition. Duringtimes of high electrical loading, the engine may idle at ahigher revolutions per minute (rpm) setting than normal tomake sure the battery charges. High electrical loads mayoccur when several of the following are on: headlamps, high beams, fog lamps, rear window defogger, theclimate control fan at high speeds, heated seats andengine cooling fans.If the battery continues to discharge, even with theengine idling at a higher rpm setting, some electricalloads will automatically be reduced. When this occurs, the rear window defogger may take slightly longer to clearthe glass and the fan may cut back to a lower speed. For more battery saving information, see “Battery SaverActive Message” under DIC Warnings and Messages onpage 3-79.3-41
