9-21How to Check Power SteeringFluidTo check the power steering fluid:1. Turn the key off and let theengine compartment cool down.2. Remove the engine cover, ifrequired. See Engine Cover onpage 9-7.3. Wipe the cap and the top of thereservoir clean.4. Unscrew the cap and wipe thedipstick with a clean rag.5. Replace the cap and completelytighten it.6. Remove the cap again and lookat the fluid level on the dipstick.The level should be within the HOTmark. If necessary, add only enoughfluid to bring the level within themark.What to UseTo determine what kind of fluid touse, see Recommended Fluids andLubricants on page 10-3. Always usethe proper fluid.Washer FluidWhat to UseWhen windshield washer fluid isneeded, be sure to read themanufacturer's instructions beforeuse. If operating the vehicle in anarea where the temperature may fallbelow freezing, use a fluid that hassufficient protection against freezing.Adding Washer FluidThe WASHER FLUID LOW ADDFLUID message appears on theDriver Information Center (DIC)when the fluid level is low.Open the cap with the washersymbol on it. Add washer fluid up tothe fill mark.
