3 Installation3.1 IntroductionDE1 variable speed starter 09/14 MN040011EN www.eaton.com 333 Installation3.1 IntroductionThis chapter provides a description of the mounting and the electricalconnection for the variable speed starter DE1.3.2 MountingThe installation instructions described in this section assume that the deviceis being installed in an enclosure that is suitable for devices and that has adegree of protection of IP20 as defined in EN 60529.• The enclosures must be made of a material with high thermal conductivity.• If a control panel with ventilation openings is used, these openings mustbe located below and above the DE1 variable speed starter in order toensure proper air circulation. Air should be delivered from the bottomand conveyed outwards through the top.• If the environment outside the control panel contains dirt particles(e.g., dust), a suitable particulate filter must be placed on the ventilationopenings and forced ventilation must be used. The filters must bemaintained and cleaned if necessary.• An appropriate enclosed control panel (without ventilation openings)must be used in environments containing large percentages or amountsof humidity, salt, or chemicals.figure 21: Mounting on metal plate→ While installing and/or mounting the DE1 variable speed starter,cover all ventilation slots in order to ensure that no foreignbodies can enter the device.→ Perform all installation work with the specified tools and withoutthe use of excessive force.→ For additional information on how to install the DE1 variablespeed starter, please consult instruction leaflet IL040005ZU.→ Install the DE1 variable speed starter only on a nonflammablemounting base (e.g., on a metal plate).
