IBM Dynamic System AnalysisIBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) collects and analyzes system information toaid in diagnosing server problems. DSA collects the following information aboutthe server:v Drive health informationv Event logs for ServeRAID controllers and service processorsv Hardware inventory, including PCI and USB informationv Installed applications and hot fixes (available in DSA Portable only)v Kernel modules (available in DSA Portable only)v Light path diagnostics statusv Network interfaces and settingsv Performance data and details about processes that are runningv RAID and controller configurationv Service processor (integrated management module) status and configurationv System configurationv Vital product data and firmware informationFor system-specific information about the action that you should take as a result ofa message that DSA generates, see “DSA messages” on page 82.If you cannot find a problem by using DSA, see “Solving undetermined problems”on page 245 for information about testing the server.Note:1. In a multi-node environment, each server has a unique DSA interface. You canview server-specific information, such as event logs, from these unique DSAinterfaces.2. DSA Preboot might appear to be unresponsive when you start the program. This is normal operation while the program loads.Make sure that the server has the latest version of the DSA code. To obtain DSAcode and the Dynamic System Analysis Installation and User's Guide, go tohttp://www-947.ibm.com/systems/support/supportsite.wss/docdisplay?brandind=5000008&lndocid=SERV-DSA.DSA editionsTwo editions of Dynamic System Analysis are available:v DSA PortableDSA Portable Edition runs within the operating system; you do not have torestart the server to run it. It is packaged as a self-extracting file that youdownload from the Web. When you run the file, it self-extracts to a temporaryfolder and performs comprehensive collection of hardware and operating-systeminformation. After it runs, it automatically deletes the temporary files and folderand leaves the results of the data collection and diagnostics on the server. If you are able to start the server, use DSA Portable.v DSA PrebootDSA Preboot runs outside of the operating system; you must restart the server torun it. It is provided in the flash memory on the server, or you can create abootable media such as a CD, DVD, ISO, USB, or PXE using the IBMToolsCenter Bootable Media Creator (BoMC).
