95Application Gateway Administration GuideChapter 9Smart Agent ConfigurationSmart Agent enables users to initiate telephone calls from their desk phoneby simply clicking public telephone numbers that appear in emails andWeb applications or in Microsoft Outlook Contacts. This “Click-to-Call”functionality is achieved through a Smart Agent connection to theApplication Gateway. Click-to-Call is available to Windows PC users andalso to Citrix Presentation Server users. As a user views e-mail messages and web applications, Smart Agentsearches them for telephone numbers. When Smart Agent identifies atelephone number, it adds a hypertext link to the number so that users canclick the link to call the number. When a user clicks a linked telephonenumber, Smart Agent sends the number to the Application Gateway, which then pushes the number as a dial rule to the IP phone.Click-to-Call is usable within the following applications:• Internet Explorer 6.0 and higherTo initiate a call, Smart Agent users click phone numbers that appearon Web pages. Web page controls, such as buttons and link text, canalso be customized to dial a number when clicked.• Outlook 2000/2002/2003 and Outlook Express 6.0 (refer to theApplication Gateway Pre-Installation Requirements for service packrequirements)To initiate a call, Smart Agent users click:– In email messages received after the user installed Smart Agent, phone numbers in the message body or names in an incomingmessage header (To, From, CC, BCC fields).– Phone numbers, contact names, and email addresses that appearin Outlook Contacts and then choose Call Using Smart Agentfrom the right-click menu.
