Chapter 2: Commissioning Procedures 37AutoLearnAutoLearn enables the autopilot to ‘learn’ the vessel’s steering characteristics, bycarrying out a number of maneuvers.Requirement for a clear areaThe Autolearn setup feature performs a series of 7or 8 turns at normal cruising speed. The amount ofclear water required depends upon the cruisingspeed of your vessel, but minimum requirementsare.• A typical non-planing vessel at traveling at6 kts requires a minimum area of clear water100 m wide and 500 m ahead.• A typical planing vessel at traveling at 20 ktsrequires a minimum area of clear water 500 m wide and 2000 m ahead.Procedure1. When the AutoLearn entry page is displayedpress OK to continue to the AutoLearn warningpage.2. Ensure there is sufficient free water in front ofthe vessel to enable the AutoLearn to be safelycompleted.3. Ensure it is safe to proceed, then press AUTOto start the AutoLearn.
