42 TASCAM DP-326 - Basic RecordingMonitoringMonitoring is an important element in the recording andmastering process. You can use an external monitoringsystem (such as a self-powered monitor speakers, anamplifier equipped with speakers) or headphones tomonitor the sound of this unit.Use the MONITOR LEVEL knob to adjust the level of themonitoring system.Monitor selectionBesides the stereo bus, this unit allows you to monitor thebounce bus (see "Bouncing tracks" on page 50) or EffectSend 1 or 2.With Effect Send monitoring, you can monitor the signalbeing sent to an effect.1. When the Home screen is open, press the MONITORSELECT button to open the MONITOR SELECTmenu.2. Use the JOG/DATA dial or the CURSOR (5/b)buttons to select the signal to monitor.STEREO (default)Select to monitor the stereo signal of the stereo bus.BOUNCESelect to monitor the stereo signal of the bouncebus.EFFECT SEND 1Select to monitor the mono signal of Effect Send 1.EFFECT SEND 2Select to monitor the mono signal of Effect Send 2.3. After selecting the signal source to monitor, pressthe MONITOR SELECT button to return to the Homescreen.OL indicators and level metersYou can check the audio signal levels of this unit with theOL indicators and the onscreen level meters for INPUTS Ato H.The level meters allow the signal levels to be observedand can be used to confirm whether signals are beinginput into the unit. For example, if the level metersassigned to inputs A to H on the Home screen are moving, this means that signals are being input into the unit evenif you cannot hear anything when monitoring. As shown below, if a red line appears at the top of alevel meter, the level is too high (it stays on screen for awhile before automatically disappearing). If the level istoo loud, the sound might be distorted, so lower the leveluntil the red line stops appearing. If an OL indicator lights, the signal from the input sourcemight be too loud and/or the TRIM knob might be set toohigh. If the OL indicator lights even though the TRIM knob isset to the LINE position, the input source signal is tooloud, so lower the volume of the input source.Overload indicatorª Overload indicators (A to H)The overload indicators for inputs A to H on the displayshow input level (A to H) overloads.Use the TRIM knobs of INPUTS A to H or the outputvolume controls of the input sources to reduce their inputlevels if overloads occur.ª Track level meters (1 to 31/32)These level meters show either the playback signal levelsor the input signal levels of the corresponding tracks. Thesignal levels shown by the track level meters depend onthe operating conditions as shown below.REC button Transport status Level metersUnlit Playback Show playback signallevelsFlashing(recordingstandby)Playback(Automaticmonitoring ON)Show track playbacksignal levelsPlayback(Automaticmonitoring OFF)Show input andplayback signal levelsFlashing(recordingstandby)Stopped Show input signallevelsLit (recording) Recording Show input signallevelsNOTE• When playback signal levels are shown, they cannotbe adjusted because they are the levels of the recordedsignals. When input signal levels are shown, you canadjust the levels with the TRIM knobs of INPUT A to H.ª Stereo level meter (L, R)This meter shows the output level of this unit's stereobus. Adjust this level with the STEREO fader.
