Once normalization completes, the Masteringscreen reopens.Checking the noise shaper (noiseshaped dithering)You can use the noise shaper when creating an audio CDfrom master files of 24-bit songs. (See "Creating an audioCD" on page 82.)You can check the effect of using the noise shaper whencreating an audio CD in advance.NOTEThe noise shaper only affects the audio CD created. It has noeffect on the original master files themselves.ª What is a noise shaper?Since standard audio CDs use 16-bit quantization, thisunit automatically converts master files created from 24-bit songs to 16-bit when writing a CD. When the bit rateis converted, a very low level of quantization distortionusually occurs at points where sound becomes inaudible,but you can reduce this distortion by turning the noiseshaper on.The noise shaper in this unit reduces quantizationdistortion by using a dithering technique that addsrandom noise below the quantization steps.1. When the Mastering screen is open,press the F3 (NSD) button to open theNOISE SHAPED DITHERING screen.2. Press the F4 (ON/OFF) button to turn the noiseshaper ON.3. Press the F1 (g) button to return to the Masteringscreen.Exiting Mastering modeTo exit Mastering mode and return to Multi Trackmode, press the MIXDOWN/MASTERING button.
