CSX7000 23PLATFORM D ESCRIPTIONInternal Platform ComponentsThe EMS consists of the following hardware components:• an EMS processor card with its own memory and hard disk drive;• Intelligent Electronic Sensor (IES) circuitry, which includes an IES card, the sensory circuits onthe platform’s backplane which feed into this card, and an IES converter attached to the backpanel of the platform; and• a dedicated EMS bus (data highway) for transporting IES data from each individual platformand group in the cluster to the EMS processor card.Since the EMS is an integral part of the primary CSX7000, it can monitor all systems in that platformdirectly. Subsequent platforms come with the necessary EMS bus, and video/keyboard I/Ocabling connections for indirect monitoring and control. (Refer to CSX7000 Cabling.) You’ll need alocal console to view status and perform administrative functions provided by the EMS.Through EMS, you can power on or off individual chassis groups, allowing you to maintain onesystem in the platform while others remain operational.EMS also monitors internal parameters including temperature, voltage, fuses and CPU status. The functions of the EMS are described in detail in Monitoring Systems.BC P ROCESSOR M ODULESA BC Processor Module consists of:• a CPU or processor module card that controls a particular group,• its associated hard disk drive, and• appropriate cabling. The processor module cards are designed around the concept of housing a single board computerin a small, manageable space. The processor module cards are Pentium-based processors, andinclude standard PC components such as system memory, video support, keyboard controller, IDEhard disk controller, diskette drive controller, serial and parallel ports. An Ethernet interface, specifically used with the Environmental Management System (EMS), is also integrated into theboard. The CSX7000 Processor Modules come in two different versions:• CSXPRO7-8 (8 Megabytes RAM and a 500 Megabyte hard drive)• CSXPRO7-32 (32 Megabytes RAM, 1.2 Gigabyte hard drive)A single processor module supports up to seven WAN/LAN interface modules/adapter cards toform a group. A single platform (subsystem) supports a maximum of four groups, including bothsystem groups and EMS configurations. Once installed, the BC Processor Module is integrated withthe Platform Multiplexor for access by the local monitor, keyboard and diskette drive, as well asaccess by the EMS module for monitoring and control.
