Reducing Speed While Using CruiseControlThere are two ways to reduce your speed whileusing cruise control:• Press the SET– button until you reach thelower desired speed, then release it.• To slow down in very small amounts, push theSET– button briefly. Each time you do this,the vehicle slows down approximately1 mph (1.6 km/h).Passing Another Vehicle While UsingCruise ControlUse the accelerator pedal to increase yourspeed. When you take your foot off the pedal, thevehicle slows down to your previous cruisecontrol speed.Using Cruise Control on HillsHow well your cruise control works on hillsdepends upon the vehicle speed, load, and thesteepness of the hills. When going up steep hills,you might have to step on the acceleratorpedal to maintain the vehicle’s speed. When goingdownhill, you might have to brake or shift to alower gear to keep the vehicle’s speed down.Applying the brake or shifting into a lower gearends cruise control. If you need to apply the brakeor shift to a lower gear due to the grade of thedownhill slope, you might not want to attempt touse the cruise control feature.Ending Cruise ControlTo turn off the cruise control, step lightly on thebrake pedal, or press the cancel button onthe steering wheel.172
