Connecting and Verifying the Silentwriter 1765 2–92 1765 Set UpConnect the Network CableBefore connecting any cables make sure your printer isturned off. The LAN card has three cable ports, two forEthernet networks and one for LocalTalk networks. Ifyou have an Ethernet network, you may use either thincoaxial cable or twisted pair cable to connect the 1765 toyour network. Your Silentwriter uses AutomaticInterface Monitoring (AIM) to determine whichinterfaces are connected. For more information aboutAIM, see the User’s Guide.WARNING! Turn the printer off before connectingany network cable.WARNING! Using both Ethernet connectorssimultaneously could result in errors while transmittingand printing data. Connect only one Ethernet cable typeat a time. You may connect one Ethernet connection andLocalTalk at the same time.note: If you are connecting to an active Ethernetnetwork, the connection must be made quickly tominimize interruptions to the network.Connecting Thin Coaxial CableUse the BNC T-adaptor to connect the Silentwriter to anetwork with thin coaxial Ethernet cable. Follow thesesteps.1. If you are connecting the Silentwriter into themiddle of the network, connect Ethernet cable toboth cable connectors of the BNC T-adaptor.2. If you are connecting to the end of a cable segment,connect Ethernet cable to one cable connector andconnect a 50 phm Ethernet terminator to the otherside.3.
