4–22 1765 Network Printer Configuration GuideInstall TCP/IP Protocol on Windows 95The Windows 95 network configuration depends on theTCP/IP network software, which is included withWindows 95. Before you begin you need to know the IPaddress for your workstation. You also need the subnetmask. Check with your system administrator for thisinformation. Follow these steps to install TCP/IP.1. From Windows 95 open the control panels. (Selectthe Start menu, then the Settings submenu, then theControl Panel menu option.)2. Open the Network control panel.3. Select the Configuration tab in the Network controlpanel.4. See if TCP/IP is listed as one of the installednetwork components. If TCP/IP has already beeninstalled proceed to step 8.5. In the Configuration panel click the Add button.6. In the Select Network Component Type dialog boxselect Protocol and click the Add button.7. In the Select Network Protocol dialog box selectMicrosoft from the Manufacturers list, then selectTCP/IP from the Network Protocols list. Click theOK button.8. In the Configuration panel of the Network controlpanel, select TCP/IP from the Network Componentslist. Click the Properties button.9. If your network supports ARP, click Obtain an IPaddress automatically in the TCP/IP Propertiesdialog box. If your network does not support ARPclick Specify an IP address and enter the IP addressand subnet mask.10. Click the OK button to close the TCP/IP Propertiesdialog box.11. The System Settings Change dialog box asks if youwant to restart your computer. You must restart forthe changes to take effect. Click the Yes button torestart.Verify Printer Driver InstallationYou should have installed the printer drivers as youcompleted the steps described in the Easy Printer SetupGuide. Follow these steps to verify that the printerdrivers have been installed correctly.1. From Windows 95 open the control panels. (Selectthe Start menu, then the Settings submenu, then theControl Panel menu option.)2. Open the Printers control panel.3. The printer drivers are represented by two iconslabeled “NEC Silentwriter 1700 Series” and “NEC1700 Series PostScript L2.” If these icons are notvisible see Chapter 3 in the Easy Printer Setup Guide.
