The Silentwriter can be used in threedifferent modes—local, network, and remote. The 1765Administration software for NetWare allows you tochoose between Network Printer or Remote Printernetwork modes. Remote printers can be connected withethernet cables or via the parallel port. Each mode isdescribed in more detail in this section.Local PrintersLocal printers connect directly to a single computerworkstation with a bidirectional parallel cable. Localprinters can be shared on peer-to-peer networks but arenot part of the NetWare client/server network. Thenetwork printer’s LAN card acts as a print server for theprinter. Users can monitor their output with NEC 1765software and take advantage of high-speed Ethernetconnections.
