H OTS POT GATEWAYThe Subscriber Interface 2453The Subscriber InterfaceThis chapter provides an overview of the HSG’s Subscriber Interface and sectionsoutlining the authorization and billing processes, subscriber management modles, andthe Information and Control Console (ICC).OverviewThe Subscriber Interface is the window to the solution provider’s Web site, and muchmore than that. When a subscriber accesses the solution provider’s high speednetwork, the HSG points their browser to a sign-in page. The HSG then creates adatabase entry that automatically records the subscriber’s Media Access Control(MAC) address. Like a router, the HSG continuously tracks subscriber IP and MACsettings, eliminating the need for further sign-ins and ensuring that subscriber usageand billing is recorded accurately. The HSG also eliminates configuration issuesbetween the subscriber’s computer and the network. The Subscriber Interface is the portal Web site of the solution provider’s broadbandnetwork, and as such, its appearance and functionality reflect the needs of thesolution provider. The HSG is a gateway to this network, providing connectionservices that enable and automate an effective Enterprise relationship between asupplier (the solution provider) and its customer (the subscriber). The HSG’s role inthis customer/supplier relationship is effectively “invisible” to subscribers.HSGSubscriberGatewaySubscriberBillingBroadband NetworkPortalInternetAAA Module
