144 Handbook|Your fax machine does not answer the phone orreceive faxes.• First make sure that your fax machine is turned on and thepower cord is connected to the AC outlet.• If you have a handset connected to your fax machine,check that there is a dial tone on the phone line.• Check the reception mode you are using. Your faxmachine will not automatically receive faxes in manualanswering mode [TEL]. In TAD mode, the answeringmachine answers the call first. Refer to the “Setting BasicFeatures, Answering Mode” section of this handbook.Your received documents are light or have verticalstreaks on them and you are not out of toner.• First, print a cleaning page. Press the Select Function key,then press the 10/Msg. Print from Memory key, then pressthe Yes ß key.• If that doesn’t help, gently wipe the lens surface of theLED array with a soft pad moistened with rubbing alcohol,and then see if the machine works properly. Refer to the“Problem Solving, Replacing the Toner Cartridge” sectionof this handbook.• If your fax machine still does not work properly, removethe image drum unit. Refer to the “Problem Solving,Working with the Image Drum Cartridge” section of thishandbook. Tap the toner cartridge and replace theassembly.• If this does not work, you may need to replace your imagedrum cartridge.You set your fax machine for delayed transmissionbut it did not send.• Check the display to make sure that you have set theclock to the correct time. Refer to the “Setting BasicFeatures, Changing the Date and Time” section of thishandbook.Your fax machine disconnected before you couldanswer a voice request.• You must answer a voice request while the warbling toneis sounding. When you hear the warbling tone, press theVoice Request key after picking up your handset.
