Black plate (11,1)Cadillac STS Owner Manual - 2011Limited-Slip Rear AxleVehicles with a limited-slip rear axle can give moretraction on snow, mud, ice, sand or gravel. It works likea standard axle most of the time, but when traction islow, this feature allows the drive wheel with the mosttraction to move the vehicle.All-Wheel Drive (AWD) SystemWith this feature, engine power is sent to all four wheelsat all times. It is fully automatic, and adjusts itself asneeded for road conditions.SteeringPower SteeringIf power steering assist is lost because the engine stopsor the system is not functioning, the vehicle can besteered but it will take more effort.Speed Variable Assist SteeringThe vehicle has a steering system that continuouslyadjusts the effort felt when steering at all vehiclespeeds. It provides ease when parking, yet a firm, solid feel at highway speeds.Active SteeringAll‐wheel‐drive vehicles with the Active Steering withEnhanced StabiliTrak ® option have an electronicallycontrolled active steering system. The active steeringsystem uses the steering actuator to automaticallyadjust the front road wheel turning angle based onvehicle speed and how much the steering wheel isturned. This system reduces steering effort at lowspeeds, improves steering feel at moderate speeds, and reduces steering sensitivity at higher speeds.During some operating conditions, the active steeringmight deactivate to protect the system from damage. You might notice that the center position of the steeringwheel is changed. Unless there is a SERVICESTEERING SYS message, the system will return tonormal operation as soon as the condition ceases, usually within a very short period of time.At low speeds, the active steering system requiresless movement of the steering wheel to change vehicledirection than the normal power steering system. Adjustyour driving accordingly. When certain steering faults are present, the activesteering deactivates and vehicle speed might belimited. The SERVICE STEERING SYS and SPEEDLIMITED TO XXX messages will be displayed.5-11
