1096Storing and Handling Toner CartridgesHandling toner cartridgesFollow these simple guidelines when you handle a toner cartridge:n Place the cartridge in its protective bag. Do not open theprotective bag until you are ready to install the cartridge in theprinter.n Do not leave or place the cartridge where it is exposed to directsunlight. (A)n Never flip open the drum protective shutter and expose thephotosensitive drum to light. Exposure to light can cause thedrum to deteriorate and adversely affect print quality. (B)n Never stand the toner cartridge on end or turn it upside down. (C)n Always hold the toner cartridge as shown. (D)n Never hold the toner cartridge with your thumb, or fingers,touching on the drum protective shutter to avoid accidentallyopening it. (E)n Keep the toner cartridge away from your computer screen, diskdrives and disks—the magnets in the toner cartridge can erasevaluable data. (F)n Before you transport the printer over any distance, remove thetoner cartridge from the printer. Store in its protective bag toprevent exposing it to light.n Never attempt to disassemble a toner cartridge.n Handle the toner cartridge carefully to avoid getting loose toneronto your hands or clothing. If you get loose toner powder onyour hands or clothing, wash it off with cold water.n Condensation may form on a toner cartridge if it is subjected toextreme changes in temperature and/or humidity and adverselyaffect print quality. If you move the cartridge to a location thatis warmer or has higher humidity, let it sit out of the box for aboutan hour. This will allow it to slowly adjust to the newtemperature, preventing condensation from forming.CAUTIONTo avoid fire and personal injury, never attempt toincinerate a used toner cartridge. Toner residueinside the cartridge is flammable.
