This is based onprinting typical word processing documents that have about 5% page coverage withthe print density adjusted to the factory default (see page 80).The life of your cartridge may vary depending on how it is used. If your averagedocument contains a lot of graphics, shading or bold printing, then the life of the tonercartridge will be shorter.To conserve toner, turn on the economy mode setting for printing drafts. Adocument printed in the economy mode uses less toner so the print is lighter.The economy mode setting is like the draft mode found on some dot matrixprinters (see page 79).When to replace a toner cartridgeBefore replacing the toner cartridgeYou can use the following simple procedure to extend the life of the cartridge:1 Remove the toner cartridge from the printer.2 Hold the cartridge as shown on page 113 and then tilt it slowly back and forth todistribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge.3 Reinstall the toner cartridge in the printer and continue printing.4 Check the printed pages again.n Even if the printed text is satisfactory, you will have to replace the cartridge in thenear future. Be sure you have a new cartridge on hand.n If the printed text is still streaked or faded, it is time to replace the toner cartridge.Follow the procedure in the next section to replace the toner cartridge.
