186 Appendix 3: Print Media SpecificationsPlain white paperPlain white paper must meet the following general requirements:n Paper weight must meet the specifications listed in Table A3-1 (see page 185).Heavier or lighter paper can cause paper feed failures, paper jams and excessivewear on the printer.n Must be precisely cut and smooth.n Uniform physical characteristics and free of paper dust and lint.n Paper must not be wrinkled, curled, torn, marked or have folded corners.n Delivered in sealed packs, protected from humidity and physical damage.n Never use any type of pre-printed paper (e.g. letterhead) that will melt, degrade—or emit fumes at high temperatures of 195°C (413°F).n The stack of paper should contain only paper of the same size and weight. To avoidmisfeeds and paper jams, do not mix different kinds of paper in the same stack.Colored paperColored paper can be used in this printer provided the following requirements are met:n The paper must be able to withstand temperatures of 195°C (413°F) withoutdegradation from the printer’s fixing assembly.n The paper must be free of color coating.n Colored paper should meet the same specifications for plain paper listed inTable A3-1 (see page 185).Heavy (thick) paperDo not use extremely heavy or stiff paper. Heavy paper can cause paper feed failure,paper jams and excessive wear inside the printer. Use only paper of a weight withinthe specifications for plain paper in Table A3-1 (see page 185).For best results, feed heavier paper through the Multi-Purpose tray.
