1116Replacing a Toner CartridgeReplacing a toner cartridgeFollow the instructions below to replace the toner cartridge.To ensure high print quality, follow these simple precautions:n We recommend that you use Canon toner cartridges for optimum printing results.n Before you install the cartridge, ensure it has adjusted to room temperatureespecially if the toner cartridge has been moved from a cold to a warm location. Ifa cold cartridge is installed in the printer, condensation may form inside the cartridgeand cause degradation of print quality.n Before you install the cartridge, check the expiration date printed on the box. Oldtoner cartridges can cause poor print quality. Always use a cartridge before itsexpiration date.n We recommend that you clean the fixing assembly (see page 155) and clean thetransfer guide area (see pages 118 to 119) with a soft clean cloth, each time youreplace the toner cartridge.1 Turn off the printer, using the power switch.2 Open the top cover by grasping it at both sides and lifting it up completely.• You won’t be able to replace the cartridge if the cover is only partially open.• Make sure the transfer guide is closed before inserting the toner cartridge.
