User-defined waypoints canbe created using four methods:Mark Present Position— your present position canbe captured and saved as a user waypoint using the*/MARK key.On Map— a new user waypoint position can becreated directly on the map display using the cursor.Text Entry— user waypoints can be created byentering position coordinates manually (from a chart,etc.) or by referencing bearing and distance from apreviously stored waypoint (or present position).Average Position— position samples can beaveraged over time and the result saved as a userwaypoint. Averaging reduces the effects of selectiveavailability and improves the accuracy of the positionreading. (See page 76-77 for more information.)Marking Present PositionThe unit’s ‘MARK’ feature lets you quickly captureyour present position in order to create a new userwaypoint. You must be locked onto satellites, with a validposition fix, to mark your present position.To mark your present position:1. Press and hold the */MARK key. The NewWaypoint Page is automatically displayed.2. A three-digit number is automatically assigned. Tochange the waypoint name, highlight the waypointname field and press ENTER. Use the ARROWkeypad to enter the new waypoint name and pressENTER.3. Highlight the symbol field and press ENTER. Usethe ARROW keypad to select a new waypointsymbol and press ENTER.The */MARK key allowsyou to mark yourcurrent position as auser waypoint. You cangive this waypoint anyname you choose.You can also choosefrom a list of symbolsused to identify theuser waypoint on themap display.
