81Section 6GPS ReceiverReferenceMeasure Dist— allows you to measure the bearingand distance between any two points on the map display.To measure bearing and distance betweentwo points:1. Highlight ‘Measure Dist’ and press ENTER. An on-screen pointer will appear on the map display atyour present position.2. Move the panning arrow to the desired referencepoint (the point you want to measure from) andpress ENTER.3. Move the panning arrow to the point you want tomeasure to. The bearing and distance from thereference point will be displayed at the top of thedata window.Nearest to Pntr— is used when the map pointer isactive. The nearest waypoint list will be displayed with allthe waypoints relative to the current map “Pointer”location.The Nearest to Pointer selection is gray on the menupage as long as the map panning arrow is not used. Onceyou move the arrow with the arrow keys, this menuselection becomes active.Map Setup— allows you to configure the mapdisplay to your preferences, including map orientation,land data enable/disable, Jeppesen data enable/disable,automatic zoom, airspace boundaries, and text size. Themap setup option uses a ‘file tab’ feature, making it easierto organize the various settings. Large airports are thosewith a runway longer than 8000’. Medium airports arethose with a runway longer than 5000’ or with a controltower. Large cities are those with approximate popula-tions greater than 100,000 and medium cities are thosewith approximate populations over 5,000.When using the ‘Measure’option, point to the locationyou wish to measureFROM and press ENTER.Then point to the locationyou wish to measure TO.The bearing and distancefrom the first referencelocation will appear at thetop of the map display.The MapSource Infopage lists any detailedmaps that have beendownloaded from theoptional MapSourcesoftware package.
