64Section 5Basic GPSUsing theSimulator5. Use the ARROW keypad and the ENTER key toscroll through and select the simulator settings forSpeed, Track, Track Control, and Altitude.6. After you have completed the desired simulatorsettings, press the GPS/PHONE key to return to theGPS main pages. Press the PAGE key repeatedly toaccess the Satellite Status Page. The banner abovethe page should state “Simulating Navigation”.These settings may be left as is during your first lookat the simulator and then used later when you want topractice more advanced simulation techniques with theGPS receiver. The Cellular Phone feature is still activeduring GPS simulation and you can make and answercalls while in this mode. The satellite symbol in the statusbar has been replaced by the letters “Sim” to provideconstant indication that the GPS receiver is in thesimulation mode. The GPS receiver will now simulatenavigation based on the information acquired when youinitialized the unit.To Cycle Through the Main Pages:1. Press PAGE to move forward through each of themain pages in sequence.2. Press QUIT to move through the pages in reverseorder.In normal mode the unit would automaticallysequence from the Satellite Status Page to the Map Pageonce enough satellites were received to determine yourposition. At that point the receiver would be ready to usefor navigation. Because the unit is in simulation, youwon’t see this sequencing, but you will see simulation ofsignal strength and other attributes of satellite receptionsimulated on the Satellite Status Page.The Position Page will show the last known positionas a starting location. If you’ve already initialized the unit,the starting location should be very near to your currentposition. Now, move to the Map Page to create adestination and learn about navigation features.The Position Page, givesthe position in Lat/Loncoordinates, withsimulated data.
