50Section 4Cell PhoneReferenceSetting Backlighting Interval, Contrast, PowerSaver, and Remote CommandControl of backlighting is accomplished on theSystem page along with Contrast adjustment and thePower Saver feature. Backlighting is important to efficientphone use at certain times of the day, such as earlymorning, late evening and at night. It is recommendedthat backlighting be set for ‘Always On’ when powered byexternal power sources such as AC or DC adapters andchargers.Otherwise when operating on battery power, set forthe time normally required for dialing or other phonefunctions that you normally use. When set for a specifictime, backlighting will auto cancel at the expiration of thetime set, which begins after the last key press, but willturn back on when an incoming call rings-in or anybutton on the unit is pressed.Extensive use of backlighting will cause a significantreduction in battery life when powering the unit from thebatteries only. Enabling the ‘Always On’ backlightingsetting during charging will significantly lengthencharging time.About Remote Command:Remote Command is a feature that allows yourNavTalk Pilot be be remotely queried for location byanother NavTalk Pilot, or another DTMF capable device(i.e., a PC Modem). Remote Command can be ‘Enabled’or ‘Disabled’ according to the privacy that you desire. When ‘Enabled’ the unit will respond to any DTMF tonesto “Transfer Location” while in a call. If ‘Disabled’ it willnot respond to these Tones. Remote Command ispassword protected to prevent unauthorized changing ofthe current setting.Remote Command canbe enabled or disabledand is protected by asecurity password.
