Service Manual February 2017Jib Boom Components92 S-80 • S-85 • S-80X Part No. 1259369GT3-2Jib Boom Lift CylinderHow to Remove the Jib Boom LiftCylinderNote: Perform this procedure with the boom in thestowed position.Note: When removing a hose assembly or fitting, the O-ring (if equipped) on the fitting and/or hoseend must be replaced. All connections must betorqued to specification during installation. Refer toSpecifications, Hydraulic Hose and Fitting TorqueSpecifications.1 Raise the jib boom slightly and place blocksunder the platform mounting weldment. Thenlower the jib boom until the platform is restingon the blocks just enough to support theplatform.Note: Do not rest the entire weight of the boom onthe blocks.2 Tag, disconnect and plug the jib boom liftcylinder hydraulic hoses. Cap the fittings onthe cylinder.Bodily injury hazard. Sprayinghydraulic oil can penetrate andburn skin. Loosen hydraulicconnections very slowly to allowthe oil pressure to dissipategradually. Do not allow oil tosquirt or spray.3 Remove the pin retaining fasteners from thejib boom lift cylinder rod-end pivot pin. Do notremove the pin.4 Use a soft metal drift to tap the jib boom liftcylinder rod-end pivot pin half way out. Thenlower one of the leveling arms to the ground.Tap the pin the other direction and lower theopposite leveling arm. Do not remove the pin.5 Support the jib boom lift cylinder with a liftingdevice.6 Remove the pin retaining fastener from the jibboom lift cylinder barrel-end pivot pin. Use asoft metal drift to remove the barrel-end pinand let the cylinder hang down.Crushing hazard. The platformand jib boom could becomeunbalanced and fall when the jibboom barrel-end pivot pin isremoved if not properlysupported.7 Attach a lifting strap from an overhead craneto the lug on the rod end of the jib boom liftcylinder.8 Use a soft metal drift to remove the jib boomlift cylinder rod-end pin. Remove the cylinderfrom the machine.Crushing hazard. The jib boomlift cylinder may becomeunbalanced and fall when it isremoved from the machine if it isnot properly supported by theoverhead crane.
