Wear padsare placed on boom tube surfaces to provide a lowfriction, replaceable wear pad between movingparts. Improperly shimmed wear pads or continueduse of extremely worn wear pads may result incomponent damage and unsafe operatingconditions.Note: If the wear pads are still within specification, refer to Repair Procedure, How to Shim the Boom.1 Start the engine from the ground controls.2 Raise the end of the boom to a comfortableworking height (chest high), then extend theboom 1 foot / 30 cm.3 Measure each wear pad. Replace the wearpad if it is less than specification. If the wearpad is still within specification, shim asnecessary to obtain zero clearance and zerodrag.4 Extend and retract the boom through theentire range of motion to check for tight spotsthat may cause binding or scraping of theboom.Note: Always maintain squareness between theouter and inner boom tubes.Boom wear pad specificationsBoom number one MinimumBottom wear pads(extension end of boom)1/2 inch12.7 mmTop and side wear pads(extension end of boom)5/8 inch15.9 mmBoom number twoTop, bottom and side wear pads(extension end of boom)1/2 inch12.7 mmBottom wear pads(pivot end of boom)1/2 inch12.7 mmTop and side wear pads(pivot end of boom)5/8 inch15.9 mmBoom number threeTop, bottom and side wear pads(pivot end of boom)1/2 inch12.7 mm1 Boom 12 Boom 23 Boom 3
