TASCAM DP-24SD 356 - Basic RecordingSelecting the input sourcesThis unit is equipped with eight inputs (INPUT A to H), and eachof them has a standard XLR/TRS combo jack.In addition to mic and line signals, you can connect a guitar tothe INPUT H standard jack. When connecting a guitar, set theLINE-GUITAR switch on the rear panel to GUITAR.TIPWhen connecting an electric-acoustic guitar with a built-inpreamp or an active-type electric guitar, or when using aneffects pedal, for example, between the guitar and this unit,set the LINE-GUITAR switch on the rear panel to LINE.Assigning inputsWhen using this unit, "assigning inputs" means setting therecording source for each track to INPUT A to H on the Assignscreen.Assign screenNOTE• In the initial settings, the recording sources of the track 1 to8 are assigned to the inputs A to H (INPUT A to H), in thatorder.• The assignment settings are saved when you save a songor turn the unit off. Likewise, the assignments settings areloaded when you load a song.This unit can simultaneously record a maximum of eight tracks.You can assign one input source to multiple tracks simultane-ously. However, you cannot assign multiple input sources to thesame track. You can also assign an input source to a stereo bus.Assigning to a mono trackTracks 1 to 12 are mono tracks.1. When the recorder is stopped, press the ASSIGN button toopen the Assign screen.2. Use the SELECT button of each track or the CURSOR(5/b/g/t) buttons to move the cursor to the monotrack you want to assign a recording source.3. Press the SOURCE button of the desired input (INPUT A toH) or turn the JOG/DATA dial to set the input source of eachmono track.4. After making the settings, press the ASSIGN button or theHOME button to return to the Home screen.Assigning to a stereo trackTracks 13/14 to 23/24 are stereo tracks.Stereo tracks are always simultaneously recorded.You cannot record to a single track of a stereo track pair.1. When the recorder is stopped, press the ASSIGN button toopen the Assign screen.2. Use the SELECT button of each track or the CURSOR(5/b/g/t) buttons to move the cursor to the stereotrack you want to assign a recording source.3. Press the SOURCE button of the desired input (INPUT A toH) or turn the JOG/DATA dial to set the input source of eachstereo track.Options: A/A, A/B, B/B, C/C, C/D, D/D, E/E, E/F,F/F, G/G, G/H, and H/H4. After making the settings, press the ASSIGN button or theHOME button to return to the Home screen.NOTE• You can assign a single input source to multiple tracks bykeeping the SOURCE button of the desired input (INPUT Ato H) pressed and pressing the SELECT buttons of multipletracks.• However, you cannot assign multiple input sources to thesame track.Assigning to a stereo busTo use an external effect device, assign the inputs (A to H) thatare connected to the outputs of the effect (EFFECT RETURN) to astereo bus to return the effect signal to that stereo bus. You canalso assign inputs to stereo buses during mixdown, allowing youto mix up to 8 input signals with the playback tracks.1. When the recorder is stopped, press the ASSIGN button toopen the Assign screen.2. Use the STEREO SELECT button or the CURSOR(5/b/g/t) buttons to move the cursor to the STEREOBUS display area.3. Use the CURSOR (g/t) buttons to move the cursor to theinput source you want assign to the stereo bus.4. Press the SOURCE button of the desired input (INPUT A toH) or turn the JOG/DATA dial to set the input source to thestereo bus.5. After making the settings, press the ASSIGN button or theHOME button to return to the Home screen.Checking the assignmentYou can check the current assignment on the Assign screen.The assigned input source name (A to H) is displayed on thelevel meter display area of each track on the Home screen.NOTEWhen power is turned off (except when the song protectionfunction is enabled), the current song is saved and allsong-related settings are stored.The next time you turn the power on, all stored settings willbe restored.Canceling an assignmentWhen the Assign screen is displayed, pressing the F1(DEFAULT) button restores the initial settings. Likewise,pressing the F2 (ALL CLEAR) button clears all assignmentsettings.
