TASCAM DP-24SD 5510 - Mixing Down and Mastering TracksMixing down tracksMixing down tracks is the process of adjusting the volumes andstereo positions of each recorded track and mixing them into awell-balanced stereo track.Including recorded tracks (24 maximum) and inputs (8maximum), you can mix down up to 32 tracks in total.Levels and balanceUse the track faders to balance the relative levels of the tracks. Then, use the STEREO fader to adjust the overall level. Watchingthe stereo level meters on the display, adjust the level until it issuitable. If the volume is too loud, the sound will be distorted.NOTEThe track meters on the display show the recorded signallevels of the tracks. Therefore, these meters do not changewhen the TRACK faders are adjusted.TIPYou do not need to keep the entire song at the same volume. For example, you could gradually increase the volumeduring a guitar solo.Fader groupYou can control multiple faders simultaneously.Set or release a group while the FADER GROUP button is lit.8 Grouping tracks1. Press the FADER GROUP button.2. Adjust the level and balance between tracks you want tocontrol.3. Press the SELECT buttons of tracks to control. The lit SELECT button indicates a track with a group set.The track fader with the smallest number will be the masterfader, and faders with a group set can be controlled. Whilea fader other than the master fader is operated, the SELECTbutton of the master fader blinks. This fader group retains the relative level difference fromthe master fader at the time of setting internally in dB. Thephysical fader interval is not retained.NOTEWhen a group has been set, it will not be cancelled even ifyou press the FADER GROUP button. (The FADER GROUPbutton blinks.)In this case, if the master fader is operated, the SELECTbuttons of tracks with a group set light during operation. If another fader is operated, the SELECT button of themaster fader blinks during operation.8 Ungrouping tracks1. Press and turn off all the SELECT buttons of tracks with agroup set.2. Press the FADER GROUP button. If you press the FADER GROUP button before turning offall the buttons (there is still a lit button), the FADER GROUPbutton blinks to indicate that the group setting is active.CAUTIONAfter canceling the group setting, the positions of thephysical faders and the actual fader levels (internal fader)may not match. In such a case, when you move a physicalfader, the internal fader matches the physical fader value, and thereafter the physical fader controls the level. In thiscase, a sudden level change may occur.NOTEAfter setting a group, if it is released or added to and themaster fader is changed, the track level is reset to thephysical fader value.Stereo position (panning)Use the PAN knobs on the Mixer screen of each track to set thestereo position of the track signal.Track equalizerEach track has a 3-band equalizer. The equalizer setting is made on the Mixer screen (TRACK 1to TRACK 23/24).For a stereo track, the adjustment is the balance (BAL).1. Press the MIXER button to open the Mixer screen.2. Adjust the track equalizer. The equalizer parameters are as follows.GAIN FREQHIGHHigh gainSetting range: ±12dB(Default: 0dB)High frequencySetting range: 1.7kHz to18kHz (Default: 10kHz)MIDMid gainSetting range: ±12dB(Default: 0dB)Mid frequencySetting range: 32Hz to18kHz(Default: 1.0kHz)LOWLow gainSetting range: ±12dB(Default: 0dB)Low frequencySetting range: 32Hz to1.6kHz(Default: 100Hz)Use the SELECT button of each track to select the desiredtrack.Use the HIGH, MID, and LOW GAIN knobs to adjust the gainof each band.Use the HIGH, MID, and LOW FREQ knobs to adjust thecenter frequency of each band.Use the MID Q knob to set the resonance (width) of the MIDFREQ band.Setting range: 0.25 to 16 (Default: 0.5)Press the EQUALIZER ON/OFF button to turn the equalizeron or off.Use INPUT SOURCE (A–H) buttons to select inputs to setthe equalizer.
