TASCAM DP-24SD 477 - Recorder FunctionsIn the auto punch in/out function of this unit, the abovemonitoring changes occur not only during the actual recording,but also in the Rehearsal mode.In Rehearsal mode, you can simulate the auto punch in/outrecording. Therefore, you can rehearse your performance andalso check whether the IN point and OUT point are appropri-ately set.You can also use the punch in/out in combination with therepeat function. By using these functions in combination, youcan repeatedly rehearse the punch in/out recording, or recordthe same section several times (multi-take), leaving the unitworking automatically to you. When performing multitrackrecording, you can choose the best from recorded takes.Setting punch-in/out pointsThere are two ways to set the punch-in/out points.LAST REC:This option sets the start and end points of the last recording(or recording rehearsal) as the punch in/out points.The display returns to the Home screen, and Auto Punchappears on the top of the screen.IN - OUT:This option sets the IN point and the OUT point as the punchin/out points. The first of these points will be used as thepunch in point, and the second as the punch out point.The display returns to the Home screen, and Auto Punchappears on the top of the screen.1. When the recorder is stopped, press the HOME button toopen the Home screen.2. Press the REC button for the track that you want to punchin/out automatically.3. Press the AUTO PUNCH button to open the AUTO PUNCHscreen.4. Use the CURSOR (5/b) buttons to select (blue highlight)MODE, PREROLL or POSTROLL, and then use the JOG/DATA dial to select the value.MODE: LAST REC or IN-OUTPREROLL: 1.0 to 9.9 secPOSTROLL: 1.0 to 9.9 secAfter setting MODE, PREROLL, and POSTROLL, press theF4 (t) button.You can press the AUTO PUNCH button to return to theHome screen without entering Auto Punch In/Out mode.NOTEYou can press the AUTO PUNCH button before puttingany tracks into recording standby. Press the REC button ofany track to put it into recording standby after enablingautomatic punching.Checking punch-in/out pointsWhen punch-in/out points are set, you can confirm the settingby pressing the PLAY (t) button.The playback starts from the pre-roll point and continues to thepost-roll point. When the punch-in point is reached, on tracksarmed for recording, already recorded audio will be muted andonly input signals will be heard. When the punch-out point isreached, already recorded audio and input signals will both beheard.If you want to change the punch-in/out points, locate thedesired points and set them again.If there are no problems with the punch-in/out points andpre-roll and post-roll times rehearse recording, as describedbelow.Rehearsing with automatic punchingYou can rehearse before performing punch in/out. In therehearsal, the monitor operates the same way as for the actualrecording, but the recording is not performed.1. When the AUTO PUNCH button is lit and one of the tracks isin recording standby, press the REHEARSE button.The REHEARSE button becomes lit.2. Press the RECORD (0) button.Auto punch in/out rehearsal starts.• Playback starts from the pre-roll point. You can monitorboth the track playback signal and the input sourcesignal.• When the punch in point is reached, the monitoringchanges to input source signal only, and the RECORD(0) button starts flashing (to indicate this is a rehearsal).• When the punch out point is reached, the monitoring ofboth the track playback signal and input source signalstarts, and the RECORD (0) button becomes unlit.• Playback continues until the post-roll point and stops.Before starting your rehearsal, you can press the REPEATbutton (so that all three AUTO PUNCH, REHEARSE, andREPEAT buttons become lit), to repeat the rehearsaloperation until you press the STOP (8) button.
