If you want to check a part of the recording, use the REW(m) (TO ZERO) button, for example, to move to it (locate).TIPUse the TO LAST REC function to move to the last recordingposition and the TO ZERO function to return to the start ofthe song (00:00:00). For more information about therewind/fast-forward and locate functions, see “Returning tozero or the last recording position” on page 44.10. 1Press the PLAY (7) button to play back the recorded track.Use the track faders and STEREO fader to adjust theplayback level.Use the MONITOR LEVEL knob or the volume control onyour monitoring system to set the final monitoring volume.Use the PAN knobs on the corresponding Mixer screen toset the stereo position of each track between the left andright speakers.NOTE• The track PAN knobs on the Mixer screen of each trackand the track faders control the recorded track's playbackoutput signal or the monitoring sound of the input signal.They do not control the signal being recorded to the track.• If you are not satisfied with the recorded sound, repeat theprocedure above from the beginning.Multitrack recordingYou can record new sounds to different tracks while playingback already recorded tracks.Setting the tracks for recording• Press the REC buttons of the already recorded tracks to turnoff the REC buttons.• Press the REC buttons of the tracks that you want to recordto put them into recording standby (the REC buttons startflashing).Setting track pan and levelUse the track faders and PAN knobs on the Mixer screen ofthe already recorded tracks to adjust the levels and stereopositions for monitoring the playback signals while making newrecording.Input selection and assignmentUse the procedures described earlier in this chapter to assigninput sources to the recording tracks.Setting input levelsAfter making the settings, press the PLAY (7) button to startplayback.Just as though you were recording, you can monitor the soundof already recorded tracks playing back and the input sources onthe tracks for recording, allowing you to check the monitoringbalance and volume.RecordingPress the RECORD (0) button.Now you can start recording to another track while monitoringthe playback signal.Undoing an operationThis unit allows you to undo an operation or recording thatwas not successful or satisfactory. Many ordinary operations,including editing and recording, can be canceled (undone).This unit has two types of undo functions. Single undo can beperformed by a simple button press, while multi-undo allowsyou to return to a specific past operation and undo the opera-tions that occurred after it.You can use the undo function for the following operations.• Track editing operations (functions described in this chapter)• Recording operations (including track bouncing)• Automatic punching in/outAll these operations are stored on the SD card as song infor-mation. Even when you turn the unit off (standby), the previousoperations are stored and can be undone when you turn on theunit again.When listening to a part that you replaced in your last recording,for example, you find that the previous take was better. In such acase, you can use the undo function to easily get your previoustake back.NOTEThe UNDO/REDO button becomes lit when a single undo ormulti-undo has been performed.Undo feature settings1. When the recorder is stopped, press the MENU button toopen the MENU screen.2. Use the JOG/DATA dial or the CURSOR (5/b/g/t)buttons to select (green highlight) PREFERENCE, andthen press the F4 (t) button.The PREFERENCE menu screen appears.3. Use the CURSOR (5/b) buttons to select (blue highlight)Undo History.
