6-2 CHAPTER 6: M ANUAL SETUPRemote SiteManagement Each remote site that you want to connect to is accessed through a single ATMVirtual Channel connection. To set up connections over the WAN, a VC (remotesite) profile must be created and edited. With this profile, you specify ATM VirtualChannel information, protocols, and addresses that determine the method ofconnection and communication to that remote site. You create VC profiles using the add vc command (e.g., add vc Internet willcreate a profile called “Internet”), and then you modify the profile using set vccommands to setup the WAN connection and network information. The following list summarizes the necessary information. WAN - Network Service (PPP/RFC 1483) information, ATM VC information IP - IP addresses, address translation tables, static routes, RIP usage. IPX - IPX network address information, static routes and services, RIP usage. Bridging - Enable or disable bridging to the remote site.If you need to connect to multiple remote sites (i.e., the Internet and a remoteoffice) you should set up a remote site profile for each location.Remember to save your configuration using the save all command beforerebooting your OCR 812 so that your changes will be written to permanent FLASHmemory.Managing a Remote Site You can obtain a list of all currently configured VC profiles using the command:list vcs You can view the contents of a particular profile using the command:show vc The OCR 812 always has a default profile. Any value that is not set in a profile thatyou create will assume the values that are present in the default profile. Thedefault profile cannot be created or deleted, but it can be modified using the setvc command. You can view the default profile using the command:show vc defaultVC profiles can be enabled or disabled. When a profile is enabled using theenable vc command, the OCR 812 reads the connection parameters for theremote site from the profile and continuously attempts to establish a connectionto the remote site. When a profile is disabled using the disable vc command, the connection will beterminated and no other data will be directed to the remote site. Configurationchanges to a remote site profile do not take effect until the next time the profile isenabled. Thus, if you want to make changes to the profile you should disable theprofile, make your changes, and then re-enable the profile.
