Engine Coolant HeaterYour vehicle may be equipped with an engine coolantheater.In very cold weather, 0°F (−18°C) or colder, the enginecoolant heater can help. You’ll get easier starting andbetter fuel economy during engine warm-up. Usually, thecoolant heater should be plugged in a minimum of fourhours prior to starting your vehicle. At temperaturesabove 32°F (0°C), use of the coolant heater is notrequired.To Use the Engine Coolant Heater1. Turn off the engine.2. Open the hood and unwrap the electrical cord.The cord is located in the engine compartment on thedriver’s side of the vehicle near the engine oildipstick. SeeEngine Compartment Overview onpage 5-12 for more information on location.You must remove the plastic cap to access the plug.3. Plug it into a normal, grounded 110 - volt AC outlet.{CAUTION:Plugging the cord into an ungrounded outletcould cause an electrical shock. Also, thewrong kind of extension cord could overheatand cause a fire. You could be seriouslyinjured. Plug the cord into a properly groundedthree-prong 110-volt AC outlet. If the cord willnot reach, use a heavy-duty three-prongextension cord rated for at least 15 amps.4. Before starting the engine, be sure to unplug andstore the cord as it was before to keep it away frommoving engine parts. If you don’t, it could bedamaged.2-25
