Approaching and Following a VehicleThe vehicle ahead symbolwill only appear on theHUD when a vehicle aheadis detected in your path.If this symbol does not appear, or disappears briefly,Adaptive Cruise Control will not respond to vehicles youmay see ahead.{CAUTION:When the Adaptive Cruise Control radar isblocked by snow, ice, or dirt, it may not detecta vehicle ahead. Adaptive Cruise Control maynot have time to slow your vehicle enough toavoid a collision. Do not use Adaptive CruiseControl when the radar is blocked by snow,ice, or dirt. Keep your radar clean. See“Cleaning the System” later in this section.Adaptive Cruise Control will, automatically, slow yourvehicle down when approaching a slower movingvehicle. It will then adjust your speed to follow thevehicle in front at the selected follow distance. Yourspeed will increase or decrease to follow the vehicle infront of you but will not exceed the set speed. Itmay apply limited braking, if necessary. When braking isactive, your brake lights will come on. It may feel orsound different than if you were applying the brakesyourself. This is normal.Stationary or Very Slow-Moving Objects{CAUTION:Adaptive Cruise Control may not detect andreact to stationary or slow-moving vehicles orother objects ahead of you. You could crashinto an object ahead of you. Do not useAdaptive Cruise Control when approachingstationary or slow-moving vehicles orother objects.3-26
