74 Configuring Dell™ PowerConnect™Context Sensitive HelpUse the ? command to get context sensitive help in the CLI. It can be used to get the list of possible sub-commands or to list possible commands starting with some partially entered commands. The ?command when specified on an empty line provides the list of commands possible for the given level inthe command tree. The ? can also be used within a command input to return the list of parameters thatare required to fully complete the command. Parameters that are already provided by the user is left outof the command list so that only the missing parameters are listed.Interface Naming ConventionIn an industry-standard CLI implementation, there is an accepted convention for naming interfaces onthe CLI. The convention for naming interfaces on Dell devices are as follows:• Unit#/Interface ID — each interface is identified by theUnit# followed by a/ symbol and then theInterface ID (see below).NOTE: The PowerConnect 8024/8024F does not support stacking; therefore, the unit number is always 1.• Unit# — the unit number is used only in a stacking solution where a number of switches are stackedto form a virtual device. In this case, theunit number identifies the physical device identifier withinthe stack.• Interface ID — is formed by the interface type followed by the interface number. There is currently apredefined list ofinterface types (see below). If additional interface types are to be defined, they mustbe registered with Dell. For example, 1/xg10 identifies the 10-gigabit port 10 on the first unit.• Interface Types — the following interface types are defined in the PowerConnect 8024/8024Fswitches:• xg — 10 Gb Ethernet port (for example, 1/xg2 is the 10 Gb Ethernet port 2).PowerConnect 8024 and 8024F CLI Reference GuideFor detailed information on all the CLI commands available, see theCLI Reference Guide. This section provides summary information about such common tasks as:• Modifying Switching Port Default Settings• Retrieving an IP Address From a DHCP Server• Configuring an Initial Console Password• Configuring an Initial Telnet Password• Configuring an Initial HTTP Password• Configuring an Initial HTTPS PasswordModifying Switching Port Default SettingsWhen configuring/receiving IP addresses through DHCP and BOOTP, the configuration received fromthese servers includes the IP address, and may include subnet mask and default gateway.
