This section does not explain the various configurations available on the switch or therelevant commands.This section also describes accessing a switch for the first time with the default configuration anddefinitions. If a previously entered configuration causes problems, the startup-configuration file —which is the configuration of switch when powered up — should be erased and the switch rebooted. See"Device Default Settings."Switch Setup RequirementsThe following components are required for the purpose of this example:• PowerConnect 8024/8024F switch• A workstation with the following components installed:– Network adapter card– ASCII terminal application (for example, Microsoft® Windows ® HyperTerminal or ProcommPlus™ Terminal)– A browser application• Supplied RJ-45 to DB9a serial cable• Straight or cross UTP (category 5) cable(s)Initial Connection1. Using the RS-232 port, connect the switch to the workstation.2. Set the serial console with the following settings and select the appropriate COM port.The sample screen uses the HyperTerminal.
