Loading the 8 mm Tape CartridgeBefore loading the tape cartridge, make sure the system unit power is on and that thewrite-protect tab on the tape cartridge is set correctly. Refer to “Setting the Write-ProtectTab on 8 mm Tape Cartridges” on page 21. The tape drive loads the tape from thecartridge and prepares it for reading and writing.1 Window side of tape cartridge2 8 mm tape cartridge3 Write-protect tabTo load the 8 mm tape cartridge, do the following:1. Grasp the edges of the 8 mm tape cartridge with the write-protect tab toward youand the window side of the cartridge facing up.2. Slide the tape cartridge into the opening on the front of the 8 mm tape drive untilthe loading mechanism pulls the cartridge into the drive and the drive door closes.The ready status light (green) comes on if the load operation was successful.The tape drive is ready for data operations when the tape cartridge is inserted. After thecartridge is inserted into the tape drive, the tape takes about 25 seconds to load.Commands can be entered while the tape is loading.
