Ensure circuits arenot overdriven or disconnected from theirloads while turned on.NOTEIf a spare module is available, proceed toparagraph 5.11.1 for IPA module removal. If one of the transmitter’s operational RFpower modules is being used, first seeparagraph 5.9.1 for RF power moduleremoval.5.11.1 IPA Module RemovalRemove a defective IPA module from thetransmitter as follows:(a) Verify the requirements of paragraph5.11 have been completed.(b) For V5/V3.5 transmitters only, pressRF Off.(c) Set the switching power supply modulethat applies PA voltage to the IPAmodule being removed to STANDBY(toggle down). The switching powersupply module’s red DC FAIL lampshould be on and the IPA module’samber PA VDC lamp should be off.(d) If necessary, remove the appropriatemodule packing bracket (see Figure2-6) to gain access to the defective IPAmodule. Carefully withdraw the IPApower module from its support tray atthe front of the transmitter cabinet.(e) If an operational IPA module isavailable, install it in the transmitterwhile the defective IPA module isbeing serviced (see 5.11.3). Refer tothe Repair manual to troubleshootand/or repair a defective IPA module.NOTEIf an operational RF power module isavailable or one has been removed fromthe transmitter temporarily, it may beinstalled in the transmitter while thedefective IPA module is being serviced.See 5.9.1 for information on removing anRF power module from the transmitter. See5.11.2 for information on modifying an RFpower module to replace an IPA module.5.11.2 RF Power ModuleModifications for IPA OperationModify an operational RF power module foruse as an IPA module as follows:(a) On the replacement RF power module, remove the bottom cover (coverspower module interface PWB – A5).(b) For V10/V7.5 or dual IPA V5/V3.5transmitters, disconnect the followingconnections on the power moduleinterface PWB:FLOATING CONNECTION MATE*W1P1 (RF input cable – PA#1) A5J8*Wire #1 (PA Volts – PA#1) A5TB1-1*Wire #5 (Bias – PA#1) A5TB2-1*W2P1 (RF input cable – PA#2) A5J9*Wire #2 (PA Volts – PA#2) A5TB1-3*Wire #6 (Bias – PA#2) A5TB2-3Coax cable on A5 (from A5-A/B) A5J2W3P1 (RF input cable – PA#3) A5J10W4P1 (RF input cable – PA#4) A5J11* Tie back cables/wires and secure(c) Reconnect the following connectionson the power module interface PWB :FLOATING CONNECTION MATECoax cable on A5 (from A5-A/B) A5J8W3P1 (RF input cable – PA#3) A5J2W4P1 (RF input cable – PA#4) A5J3
