V10/V7.5/V5/V3.5 Installation and Operation Manual Page 2-21Section 2 Preparation for Use and Installation Issue 3.52.3.7.1 M50 Exciter(s)NOTEOnly an internally mounted Nautel M50exciter may be used for IBOC operation.(a) From the front of the transmitter, install the exciter(s) in their mountingdrawer slides, located above theswitching power supply modules.(b) At the back of the transmitter, plug thefollowing connectors into the back ofthe exciter(s):• ac power cord(s) (P66 for A14 and P67for A15, if used) into the AC INPUTreceptacle(s).• 37-pin D-sub plug(s) (P68 for A14 andP69 for A15, if used), into theREMOTE INTERFACE receptacle(s).• RF output BNC plug(s) (W1P1 for A14and W2P1 for A15, if used) into the RFOUT BNC receptacle(s).• For analog operation only: Analoginput from an external AES/EBUsource, to the INPUT AES/EBU XLRconnector.• For IBOC operation only: IBOC input, via a LAN connection, to the LAN/EXPORTER INPUT RJ45 connector.• For IBOC operation only: Serial linkCat 5e cable plug(s) (W93P2 for A14and W94P2 for A15, if used) into theXMTR LINK receptacle(s).• For IBOC operation only: Exciter RFsample BNC plug(s) (P71 for A14 andP73 for A15, if used), and optionalinline BNC attenuators, into the RFSAMPLE INPUT BNC receptacle(s).• For IBOC operation only: Connect a10 MHz reference, from an externalGPS source (e.g., Exporter), to theGPS INPUT 10 MHz BNC connector.(c) Connect the program input to theappropriate exciter input, as detailedin the M50 Installation and OperationManual. After making any necessaryprogram input adjustments, securethe exciter(s) using four front panelscrews located in a bag attached tothe exciter(s).NOTERoute exciter program cables through aferrite toroid, provided with the exciter’sancillary kit, to the rear of the exciter(s).(d) For external exciter mounting, considerthe following:• Connect a coaxial cable between theexciter’s RF OUT BNC and J1 (exciterA) or J2 (exciter B) of RF drive splitter/changeover assembly A16 (seeFigure MD-3 of the Repair Manual).• Connect each exciter’s RF mute(safety interlock) control to thetransmitter’s exciter interlock control, using a single-conductor, shieldedwire (user supplied). The exciterinterlock controls are available on theEXC A and EXC B terminals of TB2on the remote interface PWB (A44).Nautel exciters require an opencontact for normal operation. Forexciter A (A14), connect the centre-conductor to TB2-2 and the ground toTB2-3. For exciter B (A15, if used),connect the centre-conductor toTB2-5 and the ground to TB2-6.Install the other ends of the RF mutewires from step (b) in a 37-pin D-subplug (Nautel Part # JS52, located in theblank exciter kit) with the centre-conductor at pin 21 and the shield atpin 20. Next, mate the plug with theREMOTE INTERFACE receptacle onthe exciter rear panel. A connectorshell (Nautel Part # JS36) is alsoavailable in the blank exciter kit.
