V10/V7.5/V5/V3.5 Installation and Operation Manual Page 4-1Section 4 Testing and Adjustment Issue 3.5V10/V7.5/V5/V3.5INSTALLATION AND OPERATION MANUALSection 4 TESTING AND ADJUSTMENT4.1 INTRODUCTIONThis section contains step-by-stepfunctional test procedures, using integralmeters and precision test/monitoringequipment. The test procedures containroutine adjustment instructions to bring theparameter being tested within definedlimits, where appropriate.NOTEPersonnel who are not familiar withdetailed circuit theory or do not realize theimpact a specific adjustment will have onother steps should follow the instructions inthe order they are presented. Theseadjustments should be performed duringinitial turn-on and after major repairs or afrequency change.4.2 OPERATING PRECAUTIONSThe transmitter contains protection circuitsthat monitor critical parameters. When thedefined limits of any of these parametersare exceeded, one or more of thetransmitter’s front panel System Diagramlamps will turn on (red). When the alarmcondition could result in excessive poweramplifier stress current, the control voltageapplied to the power amplifiers willeffectively be reduced or turned off, as longas the cause of the out-of-tolerancecondition exists. Maintainers should readand fully understand the OperatingInstructions section, and in particular thecontrols and indicators section.NOTEThe diagnostic display’s main screendisplays three pre-determined parameters(e.g., forward power, PA voltage, total PAcurrent, etc.). All transmitter parameters, incombinations of three, may be displayedon this screen. See paragraph 3.6.8.4.3 FUNCTIONAL TESTSSuccessful completion of the followingtests will verify the transmitter circuits arewithin factory specifications. When aroutine adjustment will correct an out-of-tolerance condition, the adjustmentprocedure is included.NOTEIf an in-tolerance condition cannot beattained with the specified routineadjustment, discontinue testing until theproblem causing the out-of-tolerancecondition is corrected.4.3.1 GeneralThe functional tests should be performedas a routine part of scheduled maintenancechecks and as the first step introubleshooting procedures. These resultsshould be recorded for comparison withpast and future test results. The functional test procedures areprovided in a step-by-step format. Thismethod of presentation permits a personwho is unfamiliar with the transmitter toperform the functional tests in a logicalsequence. Nautel recommends theprocedures be completed in sequence, aseach procedure establishes switch settingsand contains prerequisites for subsequentprocedures. The following assume the initial turn-onprocedure detailed in Section 2 has beencompleted during initial installation or aftermajor repairs that warrant repeating theinitial start-up procedure.
